Some Suggestions for AGP VGA Card Users :

Please check the following conditions:
1. Overclock : If you have made your CPU/memory running at a higher speed, please change it back to normal speed; because the power supply could not accept this kind of loading when you install a new VGA card on the system.
2. Power Supply : We've always suggested a power supply with 350W~400W for most AGP series products, so you might need an equivalent or higher power supply. If this VGA card includes an external power connector, please make sure the power supply connects to the vga card ONLY. We do not suggest you to connect the same cable with other devices like HDD/CDROM.
3. System Memory Config : Please try to install your DIMM moudle to a different slot of your mainboard. We have received some feedback that the system works in AGP 8x after users have changed the DIMM to another brand, or changed the slot.
4. Driver/Bios of Mainboard : Please check and update the driver/bios of mainbnoard, and make sure the bios/driver of mainboard is working with the latest version. In some cases, you might need to check with the mainboard chipset vendor ( VIA / NV / intel .... ) to make sure the driver has updated to newest version.
You could try to change these bios setting of your mainboard ---
AGP fast write: Disable; AGP aperture memory: 128MB or 256MB; AGP voltage : 1.6V

Do I need to update BIOS for the display card like mainboards?

Because the components on display card are fixed, it is totally unnecessary to regularly update the BIOS of display card. Mainboard may need to update BIOS for its compatibility with new CPU, DRAM, peripheral devices, and etc. Display card BIOS updates are required only for bug fixing or other special cases. It happens rarely. Please note, we do not suggest users to update BIOS with image files that are available on Internet. It is highly likely that those image files are not compatible with your display card at all; and your display card may not work any more after such update. You would void the warranty of display card at the same time.

Why is the image on TV not as sharp as the image display on CRT (LCD) monitor. TV display looks blurry.

It is due to the limitation of TV resolution and compressed S-Video (Composite) format. The resolution for generic TV is much lower than generic computer monitor.
[NTSC (525 horizontal scan lines)/PAL (625 horizontal scan lines) compares with computer resolution 1024x768 (768 horizontal scan lines)]
Also, S-Video interface is an analog compressed format.  Composite is a further compressed format based on S-Video interface (Y and C signal of S-Video is compressed into one signal of Composite ).  So, when you try to view computer display on generic TV. The image quality will suffer from lower resolution of TV and signal loss via compressed signal interface. The only advantage for TV output is generic TV screen size is much bigger than generic computer display device.

Why is my X800/R9800 series VGA card very unstable ?

Please check the following settings step by step,
Driver: Please update VGA driver to the latest version from PowerColor/ATi's website.  You will need to remove all other VGA drivers from 'add/remove program' before updating the new VGA driver.
Power supply: Please make sure that your power supply is for 300W output.  These VGA series need a stable power out to run a 3D software in a heavy loading.  If possible, please do not share the power cable of the vga card with other devices.  Sometimes the VGA card will ne unstable because of sharing power supplies.
For AGP series VGA card,
Setting change: Please disable 'fastwrite' feature in section 'SmartGart' of ATi advanced display properities
In some cases, please try to change the AGP speed from 8X to 4X.

For my Radeon 9600 PRO VGA card, why is display properities showing Radeon 9600 Series instead of Radeon 9600 PRO?

The first release of ATi driver included a strange status, it would detect both Radeon 9600 Pro and Radeon 9600 as 'Radeon 9600 Pro'.
This information would show up in display properities.  However, XT and SE chipset did not exist at that time.  After the release of XT & SE series, ATi changed the name of all Radeon 9600 Series chipset (PRO/non; PRO/SE) to Radeon 9600 'Series'.

Please check following settings,
Bios Setup: Please make sure the boot setting in mainboard BIOS setup has been changed to PCI device from on board VGA .
PCI Slot: Please try to install the PCI VGA card to another PCI slot, sometkmes the PCI VGA card can only work in 1 PCI slot for a mianboard with 3~5 PCI slots.

Why is the overdriver feature not showing up with R9600XT series VGA cards?

There are different models of the R9600XT VGA cards,
For earlier series, it did not include required designs for overdriving features.  We have used the memory with higher speed than ATi recommanded and enabled the VGA cards to run as fast as an R9600XT VGA card with over driver feature.
For the newest release series: Based on the new design of Radeon 9600XT VGA card, this model does have required circuits for overdriving feature, if this feature does not show up still, please update VGA driver to the newest version.

Why did the system shut down by itself after installing VGA driver? My VGA card is R9200 256MB version.

Why is my VGA card unstable at AGP 2x mode?

This might due to the default setting of this VGA card is set to AGP 4x mode, so please change the jumper setting of VGA card to AGP 2x mode by doing the following:
For CVR3 / CVR3S ver 1.0 AGP 2x mode: JP2 open
For JP1 2-3 short AGP 4x mode: JP2 short , JP1 1-2 short (default setting)

The problem might be due to your mainboard or power supply.  Please make sure you have a sufficient power supply for the system to run Your power supply CG256 Series VGA.  When you start a 3D program, your system becomes unstable due to insufficient power supply, especially for a system with high speed CPU (like athlon 700 or higher).  We suggest you to change a power supply with higher wattage.

Why does my VGA card not work when playing games in OPEN-GL mode, but works with DirectX games?

This may happen because the driver of your old 3D VGA card has some conflict with the new driver.  Please remove both drivers, and reinstall the new driver again.
